Teaching

My Philosphy

My approach to teaching begins with compassion and focuses on the importance of vocal health, musicianship and dramatic connection. I believe that singing is one of the greatest joys in the world, and am so grateful that I get to share that joy with others. I teach a classical technique that can be applied to many different types of singing. Many of my students enjoy singing different genres, such as pop, musical theater, and classical.

I address each student differently, creating lessons with their individual goals in mind. Together we choose music that will address these goals. Warm ups will directly impact the music that the student is singing. Lessons also include a portion on musicianship. We will practice and talk about ear training and music theory. I believe these skills are very important to nurture along with healthy singing. We will talk about the dramatic meaning of the music, and work on ways to tell the story through song. I want my singers to feel inspired and excited about singing, as well as to learn a sustainable technique.

I work to foster an open environment so that students feel safe to express any concerns or questions. I encourage my students to find their own true voice and expression.
